The commission process is designed to be straightforward and easy. I work from photographs or from life. With photographs they should be clear and high resolution with an obvious light source. Indoors next to a window works really well. The photo should be one that you love, but also one that works well in a drawing-big smiles showing teeth are better suited to photos than drawings.  A relaxed natural expression always looks beautiful and timeless. 

For portraits from life - one sitting is fine for a drawing, but at least two  or three sittings will be needed for an oil portrait. I will take some photographs during sittings. When the portrait is complete I will email a photograph of the work before sending the original. A 30% deposit is taken at the beginning of work. I will always try to work with you to accommodate any suggested adjustments within reason whilst maintaining the artistic integrity of my work.

Size-wise for head and shoulders a squarer version of A4 is good. It will look like 3/4 of lifesize. If more of the body is shown the size will be much bigger.
